Squirrels Can Be Fun to Watch

Have you ever sat in the back yard and watch a squirrel or two. They are really fun to watch. Especially two of them. They are graceful running up and down a tree chasing each other, or running around the yard in a circle, with their fluffy tail floating in the air.

Squirrels can be sneaky too. I was living in an RV at the time, and I had my front door open. I had a screen door on it with the slide door, that you slid to one side to close and latch the outside door. One morning I was sitting there watching a squirrel outside my screen door. He was trying to get inside. I had a bird inside the door and the squirrel must have been able to smell the bird seed and wanted to get it at any expense. I watched this little fellow climb up my screen and try to slide the little door open. If I hadn't moved he probably would have exceeded. Well I decided to make it easy for him.

I got my camcorder and set it up, I had to get this on film, because no one would believe this. I slid the door just a tad and sat back and watched. The little guy climbed up the screen, slid the door enough to get in and climbed down the screen on the inside of my trailer. He was having a ball eating all the bird seed my bird dropped on the floor. Then the action started. He decided to climb up the bird cage. My bird wouldn't have that, and squawked. Let me tell you, what a show it started to be. My bird scared the squirrel and he started to run. Off he went through my kitchen, up a step into my bathroom and two more steps into my bedroom. He was running crazy and couldn't get out of the place. The funniest thing was him climbing up on my bed and hit my lamp. It was a touch lamp and came on when he touched it. He was so scared and didn't know which way to run. He saw me standing there and froze. I finally walked toward him and he dashed past me and ended up back in the living room. Ok, I guess he had enough, so I opened the door and let him back outside. I don't think he ever tried to get back in again.

Another time I set a coffee can full of bird seed outside while I was cleaning the carpet in my RV. When I went back for it, the squirrels had eaten a hole in the top and got in there to eat the seed. I have had outside bird feeders that were taken over by squirrels. So now when I think of it, I buy the dried corn on a cob and put it out for them, along with bird seed. My neighbors hate it, but hey, they are in my yard, not theirs.

So when you have a lazy day and all you want to do is lay around, take a chair or lounge and go to the back yard and check out the squirrels. Even take in a few birds. They are another animal that is interesting to watch.
